  • If you have no dial tone at all, please try to make a normal call to any other number to make sure that your line is working.
  • If you cannot make a normal call, check that your phone line is connected to the phone and to the fax machine and that both are switched on.
  • If everything checks ok, but you still cannot make a call,  please contact the service provider (Telkom, Neotel, Vodacom, MTN, Cell-C, Virgin Mobile) to report a fault with your line.

  • If your phone has dial tone, but your fax machine does not, then it is possible that the fax machine is disconnected or is faulty.
  • Check to see if the fax machine has power, then check that the phone cable is connected to correct slot on the fax machine.

Not receiving fax to emails

If this is the first time that you are receiving a fax by email,  or if  your faxes are no longer being received,  then it is possible that your faxes are being blocked by a spam filter.

Faxes are sent as pdf documents, and spam filters that have been set too aggressively will block your faxes from reaching your inbox.

It is possible that your anti-virus has blocked the email. Add an exeption rule to allow emails from the fax server.

Add the email address to your contact list to whitelist the email address.

How much credit do I have left on OUTGOING service?

Once you have activated your OUTGIONG fax service by paying in your deposit, you may start to send faxes from your email address.

Each time a successful fax is sent, a transmission report is emailed to your email address with the following information:

Your fax was successfully sent

Pages: {number of pages}
Time: {date and time sent}
Number dialed: {number dialed}
Balance Remaining: R {your balance}

Your fax failed

If a fax fails to be sent, a report is sent with the reason for the failure.

Sending faxes – how much does it cost / is it free?

Sending faxes is a pre-paid PAY-AS-YOU-USE service and the rates start at a very good rate compared to Tekom’s rates.

Our rates are one of the cheapest fax rates in South Africa. It now costs less to send a fax from the fax to email service than it costs to make a landline call.

Depending on the destination number, rates differ.  A full rate sheet is sent when you enquire for information about the service.

You may send faxes to any country in the world.

Receiving faxes remains free.

 

How to send faxes from email

Receiving faxes remains free and it is not affected by activating the outgoing email to fax service.

The outgoing service is a pre-paid service and your account requires a minimum deposit in order to start using it.

It is cheaper to use the fax service than to use Telkom lines to send faxes.

How the email to fax system works:

  • This deposit is used as a pre-paid account that is used to send faxes.
  • Faxes are charged on how long it takes to send the fax to the fax machine – in minutes.
  • Each fax sent is charged according to the rate sheet (found below)

Worked examples:

  • If faxes are send to national numbers at a rate of R1.04 (inc. VAT) per minutes, then R50 would be enough for 48 faxes.

The outgoing service (email to fax) is a Pre-paid “Pay-As-You-Use” service.

You may send any word or pdf document to any fax machine – anywhere in the world – by emailing that document as an attachment to our servers.

Outgoing (Email to Fax) service activation

Notice: Payments and why it displays “less” than what you paid:

The reason is your payment has the VAT portion excluded from the report.
You get charged at the EX VAT rates and you do not pay the VAT portion again.

For example:

R100 wil get you 438 fax minutes at 22.8c* (20c *plus VAT)

On your bill, you will see a deposit of R87.72 (R100 minus VAT of 14%)
You will get charged 20c* per minute (ex VAT) – this means you will get 438 fax minutes!

We offer the best support in South Africa for fax to email and if you are listed with us, we will do our best to get your fax number working. You will be sent a test fax.

If you fail to receive the test fax, we will assist you in resolving the issue as quickly as possible. We will receive reports on our servers to see if your email is being blocked or if another problem exists, at Telkom for example.

Quick solutions if you have boxbe or mailmarshal: These are bad for fax for emails, disable these or whitelist the faxtoemail email address.

If you use a free email account, the set up for Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo! and Facebook are found below. You may use these steps for other free email accounts too.
  1. Please wait 20 minutes: Before starting to look for a solution to your problem, please make sure you have given sufficient time for the fax to get to your mailbox, faxes may take up to 20 minutes at busy times. Wait 20 minutes after a fax has been sent.
  2. The fax number is wrong: Check that the fax number is correct.
  3. Mailbox is full: Check that your mailbox is not full.
  4. Your clients get OK reports but you do not receive faxes: Check your spam box
    Check that you have “white-listed” the fax-to-email service email address in your email program. You can do this in some programs by adding the email address fax @ sisha . net to your contact list / address book
  5. Server side block on attachments: Check with your email service provider, or with your company’s IT department, to see that the emails are not being blocked at the server for including attachments such an images, pdf files or due to their large size. Some companies have firewalls and may have “mailmarshal” that blocks images and stop large emails. If you have gmail or yahoo, add the fax’s email address to your contact list!
  6. Boxbe: If you use BOXBE, be sure to whitelist our email address
  7. Once these have been checked, check to see who your fax2email service provider is, and contact them to resend you a test email, or to check their logs of incoming faxes. We cater for a large range of fax numbers. You may check if your number has been listed with us by contacting us.
  8. Company policies If your company has a policy that refuses to unblock the faxes:- Create a free gmail email account
    – Call or email the fax service provider to change your email address to the new email

Since your faxes are received through your email,  you no longer need to retriueve them ay the fax machine nor do you need ot print them. You can save the fax or forward the fax to someone else’s email.

We do not share your information with anyone

No personal information is shared with third parties.

We do not disclose your name, email or phone number with any party.

Our supplier has a strict privacy policy and your information will be kept strictly confidential.  Only the supplier has access to your faxes, which can only be accessed by Administrators. This means that no-one can view or access your faxes except a few high level administrators  and you.

Please note that whould you no longer use your fax number, you will be emailed warnings to inform you that your number is not being used, and that it will be discontinued after a few months.

We do not charge you for receving faxes

Our profit-sharing arrangement is with the supplier and Telkom – we do not charge you a cent.

Email privacy

Note that with all email accounts, emails are not encrypted. Please ensure that you have a strong password to access your email account and that your server is secure. It is still possible that individuals with advanced technically knowledge (such as hackers) can intercept your emails.

Do not fall victim to phishing scams: never disclose your passwords or PIN numbers by email.

    1. Hello, Numbers that are not used for a long period of time will expire. To retain a fax number, please send a fax to the number and the number will not expire.
